Diane Arbus Child Crying

Model once said, "You cannot imagine how fantastically boring it can be to look hour after hour at a beautiful body. But an ugly body can be fascinating."
Arbus was influenced to create a different view in photography, capturing the reality of society... not what we want to believe society is or "expectations". This photo says a lot in itself, a very adorable child, crying in 1967. Most photos anyone expects to see of children are candid laughs, or big happy smiles. But in this case, the more frequent "ugly" moments that occur in childhood was captured. Crying is the reality of what children are born doing before they learn to develop into young adults that can express themselves verbally. This picture tells me that not all photographs of infants need to be all smiles and laughs, it can still be a very beautifully taken photo of sweet child in a not so glory state. Photographs like Arbus's speak so loud for the brutal society we live in and how everyone is so very uniquely different in their own, realistic ways..
