Diane Arbus: "The Jewish Giant"

During the 1900s, there was an American photographer by the name of Diane Arbus who took photographs of moments that most people would consider odd or strange. Shown above is a photograph of hers known as "The Jewish Giant". I chose to talk about this photograph of hers because it looked so strange to me that I did not believe it was real at first. It seems Diane's purpose for taking this photograph and possibly all of her photographs is to capture something so strange that it becomes disturbing to look at. When speaking about this photograph, Diane said "You know how every mother has nightmares when she’s pregnant that her baby will be born a monster? I think I got that in the mother’s face." I agree with Diane's opinion, as the disturbed face of the mother truly does compliment her disturbingly sized son.
