Édouard Manet: Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe

In this painting, titled "Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe" by Manet, is translated to Luncheon on the Grass. This is a french painting from the year 1863. The painting illustrates a naked woman sitting beside two fully dressed men having a picnic in a forest. In the distance there is another woman (who is dressed) that seems to be gathering water. The nude woman is looking directly at the painter while the two men are preoccupied in their conversation. The woman also seems as as she is not the least bit embarrassed or uncomfortable being the only one nude at this luncheon. This controversial painting caused outrage in the French society, seeing a painting of a nude woman who was not a classic mythological figure. Brave Mr. Manet is now known as the Father of Modernism.
