Les Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe by Edouard Manet
The first aspect that I noticed when looking at this painting was the nude woman amongst the clothed men. This painting is untraditional, not because of the nude woman, but because she is not the typical nude woman painted at the time. Those portrayed in the nude were typically divine/godlike beings. The colors are harsh as is the flow of the people and trees. I think Manet painted this with the goal of breaking classical standards. People were intimidated by his work and considered it obscene which only helped him break boundaries and create works of art.
