Le Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe by Edouard Manet
Le Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe, translated to "The Luncheon on the Grass," is an oil on canvas painting created by Edouard Manet. Manet, a French painter, who was one of the first artists that painted 19th century modern art and he was an artist who transitioned from Realism to Impressionism. Just by looking at this painting you can see that it was painted during his transition to Impressionism. Someone said that Manet painted the background in a studio, where as the people and the food was painted outside. Judging by the lightness in the colors you can see the difference it made. As seen in many of his the paintings, there is a nude women accompanied by men with clothes on. Giving off the image of the women not being as goddesses but possibly prostitutes or models. The nude women is engaged with the viewer, where as, the men in the painting focus else where. The warm color used helps draws the viewers attention to focus more on the women.
