Blue Nude -1902

I know that Pablo Picaso was known for his work with Cubism and his ability to break down objects. However, I chose this piece Blue Nude that was painted in 1902 during Picaso's "Blue Period." His blue period spanned from 1900-1904 where he mainly used monochromatic colors of blue and green. I enjoyed this piece because his use of color helped to portray the unhappiness within the piece. The use of blue emphasizes the women's sadness, but the variations of color make me feel as though she is conflicted. The women's posture emphasizes her feelings as she is curled over and hiding her face from the audience. The composition of this piece is correct as the women leans more toward the right of the canvas. Picaso's visible brush strokes add to the chaos of this piece, as though he himself was sad throughout its creation. Overall, I enjoyed his monochromatic use of color within this piece.

The reason I chose this painting is because I like how it has a different feeling than the Mona Lisa, even though it is not much different from the actual original painting. Lito Mayo was a Filipino  artist since the 1970's. I love the creativity in this painting,  Self-Portrait of Lio Mayo made in 1981. He was not known as a Dada artist but they considered his work to be apart of the Dada movement. He was offically known as a  Filipino graphic artist, print-maker, avantegarde poet, social activist, sculptor, satirist, and art professor. He spent a lot of time in museums working on art pieces before moving into his offical career as an artist.

"Roots" 1943 Created By: Frida Kahlo Written By: Madison Herley The painting "Roots" created by Frida Kahlo in 1943 represents the artist herself. I choose the painting "Roots"  because it was an unique style of a portrait. For example, usually portraits are a close up of someones face. However, in Frida's painting it is a wide shot of herself on some type of land with roots coming out of her torso. Some researchers believe Frida was inspired to create this painting because she alway had a dream of being able to give birth since she was a childless woman. In addition, other researchers have predicted that Frida is mimicking the Catholic religion with a Christ sacrifice by having her blood flowing to the vines. Furthermore, this sacrifice has been connected to some of Fridas other work as well. I did like this photo the best because she used a lot of warm tones to create the painting.
