Broken Column -1944
Frida Kahlo is a Mexican artist who painted many self-portraits.
I chose the above painting The Broken
Column, 1944 because of the strength it portrayed. Frida painted nails on
her skin to depict the pain she felt after the bus accident. She even includes
a corset like the cast she has been in. The corset seems to be the only thing
holding the broken column together. Even in the landscape is covered in dark
divots, but Frida is still standing. This piece displays great composition as
she doesn’t stand straight in the middle. This piece is neatly painted and
contoured it lacks extravagant brush strokes. The clean lines and colors add to
the strength of the piece.
