Dada

Dada artists were very different than artists prior to this movement.  They aimed for total freedom within their artwork and incorporated every day items into their creations. They used readymade objects and worked with chance to incorporate them into the artwork rather than meticulously planning their pieces out. It was a short lived movement, but it still has an impact on art today.
I chose this piece by Dada artist, Marcel Duchamp. It is called L.H.O.O.Q. It was created in 1919 and was "readymade". Duchamp simply added a mustache and goatee to Mona Lisa. He transformed this original artwork, a ready made item, by adding new features to it. I thought it was interesting because most would be intimidated to alter a famous piece of art, but part of the Dada movement was having the freedom to do anything.
