Deer in the Snow by Franz Marc
This 1911 artwork, Deer in the Snow, was painted by Franz Marc during a period of new inspiration. During this time, Marc became fascinated with incorporating animals in his artworks. Animal themes held great significance to Marc because he considered them much more spiritual than human beings. The colors in this painting express symbolism. The white and blue both symbolize a sense masculinity. Deer in the Snow shows everyone what the natural atmosphere of deer looks like. I especially enjoyed this painting because of the shapes and texture of the background. I love how the various shapes come together and make up a realistic snow background. This painting caught my eye due to the colors of the background. Most of Marc's paintings are full of different bright colors but this painting is not. I appreciate the uniqueness of this particular painting.
