Franz Marc: Dog lying in the Snow

I chose this painting, Dog lying in the Snow, 1911, by Franz Marc because I thought it was interesting that he only used the primary colors yellow and blue, and their combination making the color green. I personally love dogs, and this is a painting of his very own dog, Russi. In this painting, Marc wanted to portray the harmony of the dog with nature. Marc loved painting animals because he felt they were more pure and "closer to God." He described man as "ugly."
