Mark Rothko

Mark Rothko was an abstract expressionist who worked primarily with the idea of color field. This is  Rothko's oil on canvas painting Red, Orange, Tan and Purple. Every color, shape, and size in his color field painting have a purpose. nothing is done by accident. His thought process was to take out any objects in a painting that would distract from the feeling. HE wanted his painting to be pure emotion, and they were very large so the viewer could almost amerce themselves into the painting. The feelings I get from this painting are warm and soothing.
