Un Chien Andalou -Salvador Dali
Un Chien Andalou by Salvador Dali really made me think. The entire time I was watching the film I was absolutely perplexed. I kept trying to piece everything together, but was not even sure any of the scenes fit together. At one point I questioned if the scenes were occurring out of order or backwards. The scene transitions were in Spanish which did not help my cause. However, I think the silence throughout the film helped to keep the audience interested. Personally if there was noise that went along with that first scene (women's eye being cut) I would have passed out. I also had questions in regards to the characters. I was not sure if the same characters were continuing throughout or if they changed, they all looked so similar. I also noticed a lot of continuity throughout the film. For example, the striped box was a constant staple. What it's purpose was I have no idea. After the film I had many questions. Like what was the armpit hair, donkeys, ants, or hand for? I feel as though Dali truly included symbolism within this film. I think that if I rewatched it a few more times I would notice more and maybe pick up on the meaning of certain objects.
